Q & A with Kristen Ashley

1.    What’s the hardest thing about writing a reunion love story? What’s the easiest?
The hardest is experiencing the emotions of the characters’ regret of actions taken that shouldn’t have been or time lost. Being deep in the heads of my heroes and heroines, that can be exhausting and, for my characters, crippling. But I love the familiarity they have, the ability to build on something that already has a foundation rather than having to create the foundation. No insta-love there!

2.    What can you tell us about High and Millie that we won’t find in the book?
High’s fighting a losing battle. Millie might embrace a house where there are coasters in only one room, and the woman can make a mess, but in the end, she’s still tidy (and so is Cleo, Zadie…not so much).

3.    What’s the last book you read?
Natural Law by Joey W. Hill. An erotica story that, bar none, was the best erotica I’ve ever read. Not the easiest, it’s BDSM and there were comfort zones that were stretched for me, but hands down the best. The characters were wonderful and wonderfully well-drawn. The dialogue flowed beautifully. The writing is exceptional and the story was exceptionally well-told. There’s humor. There’s excitement (of more than the sexual variety). There’s deep emotion. The sex was amazing and amazingly described. But it was the way Joey guided her readers through those tough bits—bits that were essential to the story, that she needed us to get through but she handled us and her characters with care, so instead of squirming with unease, you understand precisely what it means to the story—that boggled my mind (in a good way). She has a gift. I immediately downloaded the next in that series and can’t wait to read it.

4.    What has been your favorite experience as a writer?
There’s no way to pick just one. This is the best job in the world. The absolute best.

About the author:
Kristen Ashley grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana, and has lived in Denver, Colorado, and the West Country of England. Thus she has been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write. Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multigenerational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland, and Kristen grew up listening to the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon, and Whitesnake. Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music and love was a good way to grow up. And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.
