Whiskey Prince by Toni Aleo

Take a risk.
Do something drastic.
Fall in love.

When Amberlyn Reilly loses her mother, her whole world comes crashing down. Having been caretaker to her for most of her teenage years, Amberlyn is inexperienced in many aspects of life. She hasn’t had time to live, have fun, or enjoy even the little things. It’s only when a letter from her mother, asking her to fulfill three things, sends her off to Ireland to live a life she never thought possible that she begins to heal.

Declan O’Callaghan was born and raised in Ireland and has his family’s legendary whiskey in his veins. He’s shy and not a fan of the pressure and spotlight that comes with his family name, or the title he was given at birth—the Whiskey Prince. Declan knows just what he wants and that is to take over the family dynasty, but when his father gives him an ultimatum, everything he’s worked for could come undone in the blink of an eye.

With six months to get married, the reclusive Declan spots Amberlyn across a lake and instantly feels the need to know her. Soon, the two find themselves traveling down a path neither expected. However, like any road, there are bumps and side streets to derail them. Can Declan help find the pieces that will make Amberlyn whole again? And will Amberlyn stay or run when she learns of Declan’s deadline of marriage?

As she discovers Gavin’s pain-filled past, and Dillon’s true nature begins to surface, Emily knows she must take action or risk destroying everyone—including herself. But how can she choose when she can’t trust her own heart?
The highly anticipated sequel to COLLIDE, PULSE, continues Emily and Gavin’s story as their love is tested and their relationship is pushed to the brink. Music has the power to heal, but not all broken hearts can be mended.

Always in control, Xander Wilde considered life on the road to be a perfect fit for him. But when disaster strikes on the band’s latest tour, fate intervenes…and a newly single Ivy Taylor, the only girl he has ever loved, steps back into his life.

After moving past her painful breakup with Xander years ago, Ivy was poised to become the next big name in music…when suddenly she withdrew from the limelight—the same day she announced her engagement to her controlling agent, Damon Wolf.

Xander knows he should keep his distance. But once they’re on the road, he can’t resist pursuing her for a second chance. Yet a jealous Damon can’t let her go—and he’s keeping dangerous secrets that could destroy them all.

When the three of them come together, everything falls apart. But if Xander and Ivy can hold tight to the bond that connects them, they just might have a chance to reclaim the powerful love they thought they had lost forever....

MY REVIEW

In all honesty Kim Karr continues to keep me surprised.  Kim has a special way of writing, one that can make you visualize the story as you are reading, feel as if you are the character in the book and still keep you intrigued as the reader.  Truth be told I really felt like Kim gave us two books in one because there was so much story in this book.

Xander is another wonderful character that Kim has created.  The start of the book we meet a much younger Xander and get pulled into him right away.  He is a good person who loves his family and Ivy very much while trying to do what is right.  His connection with Ivy felt so real, it was filled with true happiness.  I liked him in the other books, now I really like him.  Like really, really, like him.  I am not ashamed to admit it.

That’s cool. Thanks for everything. Hey, one more thing.’ “What?”
“Ivy Taylor’s here.”
“No way. Have you talked to her?”
“Fuck no. You know she won’t talk to me. And besides she’s with that asshole.” “You should talk to her. Tell her the truth.”
“What’s that going to do now? She’ll just think I’m lying.”
“You want me to talk to her? I can explain everything.”
“No. I don’t need my little brother to fight my battles. I’ll talk to her if I feel the time
is right. Do you hear me?”

Ivy as young girl had a lot on her shoulders and yet was not resentful over it.  She had Xander and her band.  Ivy was truly happy.   She wanted to sing, her mother wanted her to be an actress.  Her mother saw Xander as a distraction to her daughter possibly becoming her meal ticket.  Of course like all goods things that came to an end.  She wont see river for another 12 years and things will have changed a lot for them.

Again this is another female character that I liked.  She was a person that had a few issues and stayed strong, she knew the choices that she was making and did not need someone to rescue her.  Trust me the reasons are very…well I can’t go there…spoiler.  But they are SO good.  I kinda feel like a kid, I know a juicy secret and you don’t, I want you to know about it so we can talk about it.

After taking care of his family sense his dad’s suicide Xander is the band manager for The Wild Ones and has carved out a life for himself.  He has not had another “relationship” sense Ivy and he just does not think that he can do it.  Heck, once he sees Ivy again he knows that he still loves her.  Only problem is she is engaged to Damon Wolf.

Suddenly she sits up and looks over at me.  Her eyes pin me in place, bringing me back to the here and now.  She looks at me as if she remembers me for who I was, not what we were.  Not what I did to her.  With my chest pounding, memories of keep flashing through my mind.

Ivy and Xander are both on tour together and this is hard on both of them.  It is obvious that they both have not fully moved on form the past.  Can they build a friendship and forgive one another?  For every step forward it seems that they take ten steps back.

I look down at her.  “Why not?  I’ve gone along with the friends thing, but clearly we want more.”
Her voice cracks as she whispers, “Because, Xander, my body might want you but my heart doesn’t.”

They have a long history, Ivy believes that Xander did something that tore them apart and while he did, his intentions were not what Ivy thought.  Xander wants to tell her the truth about what really happened, he just chickens out EVERY time.  There is always something happening that keeps him from just talking to her and working it out.  He puts others before himself, his family and the guys in the band.

I must give props to Xander, he is an honest man, who helped his mother raise River and Bell.  When the chance to be with Ivy presents its self (You knew it was going to happen) he, well let me think here, well he does the right thing by not walking away.  Finally he is fighting for what he wants and Hell if I don't want them together too.
Holly hell of all kinds of stuff, this book has so many twists to it that I had a hard time keeping up.  I mean really, there are some really good secrets that are in there, stuff that was mentioned in the other books that are getting answered and of course things that I just can not, will not tell you about.  I will not spoil this book for you but you are going to want to keep up that is for sure.
Secrets, lies, deceit and a little blackmail just to name a few.  It was a ride, well worth the read.

The book ties up very well and I was left feeling very satisfied.  Oh, and I totally agree, ROSES ARE SO CLICHE.

Just to let you there is a little of River and Dehila and Jagger and Aerie in there as well.  I am looking forward to Ben’s book next.  So here is your chance to read the book, Hell you might even win a ebook of it as well.

Forever Ours Release Day

Happy Release Day Cassia Leo!
Today we're celebrating the release of Forever Ours.
Forever Ours is the highly anticipated prequel to the New York Times and USA Today bestselling Shattered Hearts Series. This should be before Relentless.

Sometimes, it takes more than love to mend a shattered heart.

After eight years of being tossed around from one home to another, never forming any meaningful friendships or bonds with her foster families, Claire's caseworker gives her an ultimatum: Behave or your next home will be a halfway house.

When fifteen-year-old Claire arrives at the home of Jackie Knight and meets Jackie's fifteen-year-old son, tattooed guitarist Chris, she fears she'll be seeing the inside of that halfway house soon. But Chris isn't like any other guy Claire has ever encountered and he soon gains her trust through his music and unwavering patience.

Claire has finally found her forever home and she and Chris soon find themselves falling in love.

But Chris’s dreams of musical stardom and Claire’s need for a stable home soon put their love in jeopardy. Chris struggles deeply with his plans for the future, entirely reluctant to leave Claire behind; until Claire does something that may break their love — and the only home she’s comes to know — forever.

Chapter Eleven
Chris
Forever Addicted

I tumble out of bed and drag myself out of my bedroom and into the hallway. When I push open the bathroom door, my eyes widen at what I’ve stumbled upon. Claire is standing next to the toilet, holding her new cell phone over the toilet bowl. Her lips are pressed together in a hard line across her delicate face.
“What the fuck?” is the first thing that slips out of my mouth.
“I don’t want this thing anymore.”
“Please don’t drop it in the toilet.”
“What is the point of having a cell phone if you never answer it?”
Oh, shit. She’s had this phone two months and it’s turned her into a crazy person. I don’t dare say this out loud, but I’m beginning to wish I’d gotten her something else for her birthday.
If I don’t call her back within a few minutes, she accuses me of playing games. If she doesn’t call me back right away, it’s because she was busy. I don’t think she even realizes how insane this sounds.
“What do you want me to do? Just tell me what you want and I’ll do it.” I inch closer to her and she smiles when she realizes she has my attention. “You want me to promise I’ll never wait more than five minutes to call you back? Would that make you happy?”
She loses the smile and purses her lips. “This phone has turned me into an addict. I look at it every two minutes to check for missed calls and texts from you. It’s sick!”
I reach for her wrist and slowly move my hand down until the phone is in my hand. I place it gently on the bathroom counter, then I look her in the eyes.
“Babe, you’re not addicted to your phone. You’re addicted to me.”
“Shut up!” she smacks my chest and I try not to laugh too loud.
I wrap my arms around her waist and pull her against me. She’s breathing hard as my lips hover over hers. “Don’t you have to get ready for school?”
“It’s a late day. I don’t have to be at school for two and a half hours.”
I smile. It actually makes me happy that I can’t remember what day is a late day anymore since I quit school. The only regret I have about quitting school is that Claire is alone now. With Jake and Rachel graduated, and Tristan hanging out with his new girlfriend, Ashley, Claire says she spends most of her time outside of class reading.
“Good, ‘cause I have plans for you…. I gonna text you for two hours straight.”
“You’re such a jerk!”
She tries to push me away and I lean in to kiss her. At first she closes her mouth, but she laughs when I plant a loud kiss on her cheek. And I seize the opportunity to kiss her hard.
Seconds later, we’re lying on my bed, the sheets bunched up beneath her and my hand easing down her waist to her hip. She grabs my hand to stop me and I smile as I move my hand up. I trail my lips over her smooth jaw and plant a soft kiss on her neck. I hear a sniffing noise and I quickly pull my head back, afraid she’s crying.
“Oh, my God. You smell so good,” she says, leaning forward so she can sniff my shoulder.
“Really?”
She grabs fistfuls of my T-shirt and brings them to her nose as she inhales. “Yes! Is that some kind of cologne or something?”
“No, it’s laundry soap and you use the same one.”
“No, it has to be something else.”
I reach up and lightly drag my fingertip across her jawline. “Yeah, it’s laundry soap and my pheromones, which you obviously can’t get enough of. Addict.”
“Shut up.”
“What? There’s nothing wrong with that. I can’t get enough of your scent either.” I bury my face in the crook of her neck and she lets out a soft gasp when I lick her skin. “You smell sweet and salty at the same time, like raspberries with a hint of the beach. It’s fucking intoxicating.”
“Really?” she breathes. “That’s what I smell like to you?”
I nuzzle my nose against the sensitive spot behind her ear and she giggles softly. “See what you do to me? I can’t get enough of you.”
I kiss her neck and her skin is so soft, I want to devour her. But I respect her boundaries. So minutes later, we’re on my bike on the way to drop her off at school.  As usual, she plants a kiss on the front of my helmet, leaving a kiss mark on the glass. Then she bats my hand away when I try to grab her ass as she walks away.
Something about this feels too perfect. I keep waiting for my mom to tell me that Claire’s being moved to another foster home. Or that my mom will find out about us and Claire’s caseworker will have her removed from our home.
Something bad is coming. It could be next week or next year. All I know is that this can’t continue the way it has. It’s too perfect. Nothing in my life has ever been this good or easy.

FOREVER OURS will be on sale for 99¢ on May 27th and 28th. After that, the price will go back to regular price of $2.99
