Abby is kindergarten teacher at a charter school and loves her job and the little life that she has built for herself. She is close to her mother and has the bestest friend anyone can ask for. She is still upset after a life changing event from a few years back. She hides her feelings and finds a way to make the best out her life.
Caleb Hunter is a widow. Five years ago his first wife passes away from cancer leaving him with a baby girl to raise on his own. Caleb does not feel that he can ever love someone like he did with his first wife. He devotes his time to his daughter Madison. She is the cutest little girl ever. I think I like her best out of everyone in the book. Did I mention that Caleb is also a famous writer? In the book that is.
Abby lives in the town she grew up in and people still talk. She has figured that she would just be alone in her life with no one to love her. Abby and her mother are close and they have a good relationship as well. Leah is Abby's best friend and she is a little firecracker. There relationship is more like sisters. Abby can always talk to Leah for advice.
When Abby meets Caleb on the first day of school she is in awe of this man. She kinda acts like a little kid and gets nervous, forgets how to speak, oh, and falls on her ass. Its kinda funny. It made her character more real to me.
Caleb is still close to his In-laws who treat him as a son even after there daughter has passed away. Grace is his mother in-law and I gotta say she is a good woman. She secretly sets up Caleb and Abby with the help of Leah. They conspire together in a good way so they can get to know one another.
I enjoyed the fact that both Caleb and Abby took there time with one another. No rush to be together in the start of friendship and then moving into the relationship. Caleb was very up front about his intentions once they stared dating about this not just being "dating" but he was looking for a life partner. They all acted like adults and that was refreshing.
Caleb helped Abby get through her past and showed her how to move on from it. Abby wanted to learn about Caleb's first wife and what there lives were like. While Caleb felt guilty for talking about her at times Abby reassured him that it was okay and she wanted to know everything that he was willing to share.
The best part of this book for me was the "no Drama." Some books have so much commotion in it that you can't fully connect with the characters that have been written. This book was about healing and building a future and falling in love, with the sex taken out of it. I enjoyed reading it and feeling like these characters are real.
If you are looking for a steamy read filled with lots of hot sex then this book is not for you. However if you are wanting a book that flows nicely and has a good love story with some very relatable moments that are more real then take a chance and read this book. I'm glad I did.
Kim did a great job with this book and I can't wait to read Leah's story.
