He
doesn’t make it five yards before the truck slams to a stop, its red taillights
hovering, taunting me in the early SF morning. He isn’t moving, but I’m on
autopilot. One step, two steps, my feet swallow the ground between us, and then
he’s out of the truck, catching me up in his big arms as I wrap myself around
him and smash my lips down on his, kissing him in a way that the parentals
probably wished they weren’t privy to.
When
our kisses return to gentle sorrowful pecks I pull back and whisper, “I love you,
Pan.”
“Wendy,
my Wendy,” he says breathlessly. “You wait for me. You wait for me or I’m going
