New Release Breaking Away by Toni Aleo

Title: Breaking Away
Author: Toni Aleo
Series: Assassins #5
Genre: Adult Contemporary Romance
Publication: June 10, 2014

BREAKING AWAY is a story of loss, healing, and love… where unexpected turns and heartache lead to passion.

To Nashville Assassins’ leading scoring center Phillip Anderson, playing hockey has always been easy… as natural as breathing. His life is no different. That’s until his world is turned upside down by the death of his sister. While mourning his loss, Phillip has to find a way to make his very angry sixteen-year-old niece, Claire, happy. Now, as her guardian, he discovers the only thing that seems to heal her lonely heart is dance class. But what he didn’t count on was the attraction he’d feel towards her drop-dead sexy dance teacher.

For Reese Allen, dancing has always been part of her soul. After having her heart broken in New York, she comes home with the determination to make her dance studio one of the best in Tennessee and succeeds. When she sees Claire dance for the first time, she knows the girl is bound for greatness and takes the troubled teen under her wing. Using dance as therapy, she suddenly finds herself bound to the young woman… and her hot-as-sin uncle.

However, Phillip and Reese are happy in their single lives. It’s simple. They do what they want, who they want, and how they want, but from the moment they meet, the attraction is undeniable. Soon, they are more than willing to spend just one night tangled in the sheets. But, one night turns into two, and two turns into three, until they find themselves in a repeated dance of “One Last Time” that has the potential to be something more… if only Reese and Claire allow it.

Can Phillip find a way to thaw the hearts of both the women in his life, or will he be forever trying to break them away from their pasts?

Review Pretty Instinct by S.E. Hall Blog Tour

Synopsis
“If opposites attract, then I am nothing. Because you, you are everything.”

There’s no easy road traveled to such an intense sentiment, one I never dreamt I’d feel….

But I also never planned on Cannon Blackwell climbing aboard my tour bus.

MY REVIEW

I have had a hard time getting into this book I am afraid to admit.  I have loved the emerge series and thought that this would be a easy like.  So I was getting a little frustrated with my attitude towards the book.  But I kept at it.  There were so many hints and clues that I knew I would regret it if I did not finish the book.  So if you are feeling that way keep at it.  I am really enjoying it.

This book had me nervous as I was reading because I was not sure what was going to happen.  I could not figure it out.  Cannon was so level headed, confidant and when he spoke his words were just so right.  I kept waiting for the floor to fall out underneath all of them, because of him.  Cannon was so good to Conner, patient and never seemed to get frustrated with him.  I was sure that I was going to find something wrong with him.  But he just kept surprising me at every turn when it came to her, his Lizzie.  He charmed her but not in a cheesy way.  He knew she was struggling with some real issues, he just wanted her to lean on him, let him carry the weight of her problems.

"I want her to take the path all the way to the end, give mer her all of anything, even if it's just holding her (I pray all night), whispering all her stories on my chest, telling me what she was like when she was a little girl, what she wants to name our Children."

Lizzie is one tough cookie.  She has had her life changed and turned upside down.  She looks after her older brother who has special needs.  She protects him with such fierceness as if she were his mother and not his sister.  All she has is her band and Conner.  He top priority is always Conner.  Her band mates have been her friend for ever, so they too watch over Conner.  I respected her character, I personally could not find any flaws with any of the characters.

What she does not see is that those that are around her, watch over her as well.  Bringing Cannon on the bus opens her eyes to the things that she has ignored.  Rhett is like the best friend that she knew she had and could always talk to him.  Jared and Rhett both had crapy parents, came from money as well.  The three of them with Conner in tow and her uncle travel and play in a band.  As she gets closer to Cannon, the guys let him know that there is a reason for her to be this protective of Conner.

"Watch her phone, he comes up as DIE DICK.  Don't let her answer it 'til she speaks with her attorney," I hear Rhett whisper to Cannon.  They forget I am Conner's sister; that comes with werewolf hearing and a keenly developed sixth sense.  He could have signed it and I would've heard him."

S.E Hall continues to surprise me with every book I read.  Her stories are just that good.  She delivers a story that makes you own your feelings and can in vision every heartfelt conversation in her books. Through out the book songs are mentioned and this is the one that has stuck with me.  So have a little faith in me and read the book.

I check my phone for the tenth time. It’s almost 2 am, surely they’re asleep and I can sneak to my own bed. Sleeping with Conner isn’t as fun as you might think, unless you think being caged with a wild animal sounds like a party.

As quietly as possible, I slink out of the bed and through his door, pulling it closed; halfway there. Sending up a silent prayer I don’t meet any open, awake eyes, I turn, relieved at the lack of spectators, and scurry to my bed. After sharing my song tonight, I need some time to pass before I look them in the eyes—those lyrics, the tremor in my voice as I sang—I’m not ready for questions or commentary.

“Pssst.”

Of course I didn’t pull off the covert bed switch undetected. This bus—40 x 8 feet—might as well be a shoebox. I draw back the curtain, squinting my eyes against the dimness.

“Hey,” Cannon greets me with a whisper and grin from his bed, curtain also pulled open.

Giving him back the smile I can’t contain, I finger wave. Has he been waiting up for me? Was I secretly hoping he’d still be awake? Do I want to know either answer or what it says about me? What planet am I living on that this is now an issue?

“Here.” He scoots to the edge of his bunk and hands across…an earbud? Eyeing him curiously, I turn on my side, facing his way, and put it in my ear. “Shhh.” He puts a finger over his lips then winks and slips the other bud in his own ear, only breaking eye contact for a split second to tap the phone screen, then reconnecting in the muted light.

“Hello, Lizzie,” his voice sounds in my ear and as my eyes pop in surprise. He once again does the “shhh” thing, nodding to me to just listen. “I thought about playing you ‘You Are So Beautiful,’ but surely you already know that. This, you may not.”

There’s a brief pause, then music starts… It’s “Have a Little Faith in Me.”

I know I whimper aloud, but I force my eyes to stay on his no matter how badly I want to hide them and the building tears. Through the entire song, I stare and he stares back, mouthing the words every once in a while. With the closing notes, his voice returns.

“Not too corny, I hope. Just…think about it. Sweet dreams, Lizzie.”

Apparently picking up on the fact I’ve been rendered incapable of functioning, he reaches over and gently removes the earbud, taps the end of my nose with his fingertip, then closes my curtain for me.

I’ll have the corny with a side of corny please.

Protecting Lyndley (US Marshal Series #1) by Amanda Bennett

My Review

Boy oh boy did I enjoy this book.  Amanda my love you have done it again.  There was not a slow start to this book, Amanda threw us in the cross fire and just went with it.  I loved it.

Lyndley or Sarah what ever you want to call her watched a horrible scene unfold right in front of her, thanks to her lovely new job.  She is immediately put into protective custody with the U.S Marshalls.  As much as she wants to fight it, she knows that she needs to be safe and Ky is her best bet.

Ky has had his heart broken and has turned to drinking.  He get's a call from the Marshall's to watch over this girl.  Ky sees her am starts to make judgments based on her appearance.  Things aren't always as they seem and though they have a few road blocks he starts to realize that he may have assumed wrong.  He sure knows how to mess up and say all the wrong things at the wrong time, but when it comes to protecting her I think he does a great job.

This starts their relationship.  So I will tell you that this book held my attention and though Ky does have a "little" problem, that I was concerned about, I knew that I still liked him.  Lyndley had her issues as well but who wouldn't have given the situation she was in. Her entire life was just turned upside down in one night and now she has to live a lie. I get where she is coming from and being unsure of everything around her.

I wold love to talk more about the book, but I am afraid I would spoil it for you.  There are a lot of twists and turns that you may or may not see, I thought of a few and I was wrong on several of them (thank goodness).  So go get your copy and come back and tell me what you thought of this book.  I can't wait to read more of this series.  BTW, no cliffhanger.

Protecting Lyndley (US Marshal Series #1) by Amanda Bennett

Synopsis:
My name is Lyndley, or Sarah I suppose, depending on who you ask. My once amazing dream of a life had all been taken away from me one tragic night. A night that I wouldn’t soon forget. I knew my job was a dangerous one, but it never crossed my mind that one day it could all just disappear right before my eyes. Now I was trapped in a never-ending nightmare and living a life that was no longer my own. At least I wasn’t completely alone, but Ky Wakely was the kind of man that made you wish you were. Sure he was easy on the eyes, but everything else about that man drove me utterly insane. I suppose every dream comes with a price, but when it’s your life, was it a price I was willing to pay?

Excerpt:
I never imagined my life turning out the way it had thus far. Life can be a tricky road to navigate. Unfortunately, I had to find that out the hard way. I never took for granted the things I had or the people that completed my life, until the day I was forced to abandon everything.
I wish I could tell you that I was at least happy to be alive and well, but I would be lying. I missed my family and friends terribly, but to keep them safe this was what had to be done, for now. At least I wasn’t alone in the situation, but I almost think being alone would be better than the hell I was currently living in.

That's me and Amanda!

Jennifer Domenico
Jennifer Domenico started writing as a five-year old child in the back of her mother’s bible in church. It was a way to keep the fidgety child quiet but even then she took simple stories and twisted them into even more imaginative tales. As she grew, the stories grew with her and she filled notebook after notebook with her musings.

As an adult, she knew she wanted to be a writer but she lacked the attention span and inspiration required to produce a full length story. Eventually she put away her notebooks and turned her attention to the business world where she toiled away for many years.

She stopped reading fiction, stopped entertaining her outlandish imagination, and stopped dreaming of being a writer. Until one day, many months ago she went to sleep and a beautiful love story played out in her dreams.

When she awoke she felt compelled to write it down. And she wrote and she wrote, for days and days she wrote. The result is part one of Enzo and Ava’s story. Turn Towards the Sun is her first, but certainly not her last, novel.

Ms. Domenico lives in Phoenix, Arizona with her very Italian husband, a dog that adores her, two cats that tolerate her, and wicked sweet tooth. She is currently working on part two in the series.

About Koko

Koko Brown is an USA TODAY Bestselling author and romance junkie who once read over 200 Zebra romance Club novels the summer before her senior year in high school.
Her writing career began at the tender age of nine when she self-published and distributed a newspaper for her fellow classmates. Unfortunately, her grade-school principal Mr. Clark didn’t appreciate the competition and put her out of business after one best-selling issue.
Undaunted, Koko continued to write and read everything she could get her hands on. She honed her writing skills as a staff writer on her college’s newspaper, writing obituaries for the local newspaper, and even teaching American Literature.
One day, while daydreaming in bed, she came up with the idea for her first erotic manuscript. Taking a hiatus from teaching, she had enough time on her hands to flesh out the story in two short weeks.  A month later, she cleaned it up and sent it to Ellora’s Cave .  By January, she received a revision letter from one of their editors and by March she signed a contract for her vampire erotic novel Charmed.
Koko calls the east coast of Florida home. Even though she’s a multipublished author of interracial erotic romance, she has a life.  She loves to travel (three continents, 20+ countries and 38 states so far), shop in thrift stores, ride motorcycles, and volunteering.

Excerpt:

Human life held value. A virgin body attracted more wealth than a used up hag. What my master had paid for mine, I hadn’t known. I’d been born of unfortunate circumstance and abandoned as an infant. Like most women in the rebuilt world, I’d existed as a slave to men. Slaves never voiced opinions if they’d wished to live. Without an owner, I’d wilt away or fall to the harsh conditions of the broken world.
At eighteen and on my birthday, all I’d celebrated was my new sale. With a single suitcase grasped in my hand, I’d boarded the steam engine, and departed Delphia for the first time in my life. My destination, over ten hours from the Hampshire House of the Lady, lay in one of the three surviving countries of the Sundering. Arcadia was where my new owner lived. Hard to believe it an improvement of my situation, but rather a woman belonged to a single man than those visiting the brothel.
“Ticket miss?” the man interrupted my daydreaming thoughts as the door to my compartment skidded open. I fished into the pocket of my used pea coat and handed him the crumpled documents. He whistled low as his eyes raked over me. My skin crawled with a hundred bugs, and my stomach lurched from the sudden jostle of the train.
“Business or pleasure?” He accentuated the pleasure. I thanked the dim lights and hid my blush in the shadows. His hand punched my ticket, and he marked something on his clipboard. But those eyes kept rolling over me, and his tongue grazed his teeth.
We slowed down, and my legs itched to run for it as the steam driven lights dimmed inside my train car. Vehicles, small ships, and some older trains operated on the steam systems, but the tracks were older and worn from the icy elements. Steam remained cheap; trash was by far the cheapest. That much I’d understood from the overheard newscasts and conversations. I shifted in my seat as the train pulled to a screeching stop on the platform. Fancy women and groomed men waited their turn as the passengers departed.
“Business.” I forced a smile and met his glassy stare.
Women were different now; I guessed but I had no notions of the real world beyond stolen moments of television. Even then, I hadn’t followed much of what they’d explained. New laws had passed, revoking old rules where men couldn’t own humans, let alone women as property. Females once established within the governments had found themselves forced from their positions. Even soldiers and officers found themselves without jobs, and they became instant scapegoats. God spoke; the man on the television had believed and blamed the rise of feminine power for the Sundering. Free men had believed the wild banter as the upper class citizens sought a reason. There lived a rationale for everything in life, and every wicked deed they had viewed as a punishment. To me it was a bunch of hogwash, but it had remained the truth.
“Awful long way to travel for a young miss such as yourself.” His eyes said what his lips hadn’t. I was alone and a slave. At least the tinted talc hid the marks in my hair, turning the twisted mass into a pale lilac shade. Wanton men took a glance and knew what services I offered. Usually, I wore two thick swatches of purple streaked through my dark hair. The unmistakable sign had announced to others that I remained pure –a prize among the men but a whopping, fat lie. Nothing about me was wholesome anymore, and everyone I passed knew it too.
Sure, to him I was young –small enough to pass for a child- bundled in my coat, but I’d forgotten about the uniform. Even hidden beneath the wool, my corset squeezed against my boney ribs and dug deeper into my already marred flesh. Years of training allowed me to block the pain, but I wasn’t used to the stares of strange men.
At the house, men knew better than to touch me when Jules was there. My body had belonged to him, and he remained their boss, but I couldn’t rely on him any longer. Instinct kicked in, and I moved away from the man, placing my body against the wall of my compartment. I shivered, but there wasn’t even a hairline gap between the metal barrier and me. He stepped forward, not bothering to close the door, and my heartbeat quickened. My lungs burned as he approached, and the scent of his aftershave nauseated my stomach.

“Excuse me,” a deep, accented voice called from the train car’s hallway.

Hope to see you all there!!
